This week, we had the opportunity to support a neighboring community bank in our newest community.
Columbia Savings & Loan in Milwaukee was started 100 years ago by Ardie and Wilbur Halyard to help local individuals and families buy homes and fund businesses – at a time when not many other banks would. Columbia Savings & Loan is the oldest, and only, African American owned bank in the state of Wisconsin.
When the Halyards started the bank 100 years ago, they were serving neighborhoods in the poorest zip codes in the state. But they were dedicated to helping families gain and sustain capital necessary to own their own homes. And that valuable work continues today.
Columbia Savings & Loan is commemorating their 100th anniversary by raising $10 million to assist 100 families in Milwaukee achieve their dream of homeownership. Horicon Bank had a chance to support that dream by depositing $250,000 to support the Halyards’ legacy and commitment to social change.
We celebrated that deposit with area community and business leaders at Columbia Savings & Loan this week. Crossroads Collective’s Ready To Roll and 11-year-old Chef Kisses catered the celebration event.
What an opportunity to live out our vision: “Together, Doing Good” with an organization doing amazing things in their community for 100 years. Learn more about Columbia Savings & Loan.
